Editing

Life is like a typographical error: we’re constantly writing and rewriting things over each other.
Bret Easton Ellis

As well as searching for the usual suspects of grammar and syntax mistakes, I also look at whether the copy has a consistent register (tone of voice) and where improvements can be made.

I have edited thousands of pages of words written by a wide range of people, companies and organisations including politicians, journalists, senior military personnel, chief executives, academics, communication managers, start-up founders, law firms, political parties, think tanks, indie mags and sports websites.

Editing is about much more than finding and correcting mistakes. Good editing involves coordinating a company or organisation style guide particularly where different stakeholders have contributed.

I spot errors other editors seem to miss; when to use a short or long hyphen; use of upper and lower case; how to correctly present a telephone number; no standardisation of fonts and layout; incorrect use of ampersand; it’s or its.

I can provide a ‘mini audit’ of your English print and digital collateral free of charge and without obligation to help you make an informed judgement on how to proceed with editing. Please contact me about this.
